Weatherstone House sits just moments from the sand in England's Croyde Bay. Hailed as one of North Devon's prettiest villages, and home to a stretch of coastline so good it's been named the UK's first surfing reserve, it is the perfect destination for a seaside escape. Thatched roofs, rock pools and salt air are the backdrop to every stay and here's how our guests love to spend their days.

Croyde's eighteen miles of coastline offer some of the most consistent surf breaks in the country, making this one of the best spots in England to learn or improve. Croyde Surf Academy and Walking on Waves both run lessons and equipment hire right on the doorstep. For a bigger test, the Croyde Ocean Triathlon combines a sea swim, a coastal cycle and an off-road run across three of the area's finest bays - not for the faint-hearted! But unforgettable all the same.

For a gentler pace the headland at Baggy Point is a local (and personal) favourite. The National Trust land boasts sweeping views over farmland and sea, and is a haven for wildflowers and birdwatching. It's an easy, dog-friendly walk straight from the village. Further afield the Tarka Trail traces a 180-mile figure-of-eight through unspoilt countryside and dramatic cliffs making it one of the finest and longest continuous cycle routes in the United Kingdom.

North Devon's dining scene punches well above its size. Noel Corston, a Michelin-starred restaurant with just eight seats, is one of the most sought-after tables in the country and its reccommended to book early. For something more relaxed, New Coast Kitchen in the village serves excellent family lunches and a small-plates menu perfect for sharing. Or stay in and let the garden do the work: Weatherstone House comes with its own pizza oven, BBQ and hot tub for evenings that don't need a reservation at all.

Croyde has a way of filling a week without ever feeling rushed. We love the waves and the walks in our special corner of the world, almost as much as meals shared amongst loved ones. Weatherstone House sleeps up to ten across four ensuite bedrooms, with the beach a short stroll away and a garden built for evenings that run late. It's the kind of place that asks very little beyond arriving so let the tide and the coast path do the rest.
